From February 20 to 22, the Chinese (Yunnan) - Laos (Vientiane) Higher Education Exhibition and Dialogue and the Chinese (Yunnan) - Laos (Luang Prabang) Higher Education Exhibition and Exchange were held in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, respectively. These events were organized by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education.

To further promote talent exchange and development between China and Laos, the Kunming University of Science and Technology delegation visited two well-known Chinese schools in Laos, the Liaodu Chinese School and the Vientiane Sino-Laos Friendship School. During the visit, the university held a ceremony to award the title of “Kunming University of Science and Technology Quality Talent Base” to these institutions. Officials from the Laos Ministry of Education and Sports, the Vientiane Chinese Association, the Vientiane City Education and Sports Bureau, the Education and Sports Department of Xanta Vui County, the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education, and heads of several Yunnan provincial universities attended and witnessed the awarding ceremony.

Tang Jiahua stated that this is another important achievement in China-Laos educational cooperation and a new starting point for both sides to work hand in hand and promote mutual development. He hopes to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation, jointly explore more educational cooperation models, promote faculty and student visits, lay a solid foundation for the construction of the China-Laos Engineering and Technology College, and make greater contributions to the friendly cooperation and people-to-people ties between China and Laos.

During the visit, the Kunming University of Science and Technology delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education and Sports of Laos, Phout Simmalavong, and the Director-General of the Higher Education Department, Lavanh Vongkhamsane, who attended the symposium. Tang Jiahua expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos for their long-term care and support for Kunming University of Science and Technology. He also introduced the collaboration between the university and the Laos National University in jointly establishing the China-Laos Engineering and Technology College, hoping that the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports would continue to support the project’s implementation. Phout Simmalavong affirmed the cooperation achievements between the two universities and strongly supported the establishment of the Lao-Chinese Institute of Technological Innovation at Laos National University, which would serve as the Lao counterpart leading unit for the bilateral project.

Tang Jiahua led a delegation to hold a symposium with the Laos National University, where Dr. Dexanourath Seneduangdeth, the President of Laos National University, attended the meeting. Both parties reviewed and affirmed the achievements of previous cooperation. They reached a consensus on further accelerating the collaboration between Kunming University of Science and Technology and Laos National University, seeking policy support from both the Chinese and Lao governments, and deepening China-Laos higher education cooperation.

At the meeting, Kunming University of Science and Technology promoted the “Study at KUST” program, providing relevant admissions consultations and laying a solid foundation for the recruitment of international students in the coming year. The students from the Faculty of Engineering at Souphanouvong University sang the KUST University anthem, “We Start From Here.” Tang Jiahua had a warm meeting with the Laos student choir and took a group photo with them. Additionally, the delegation also visited institutions such as Mahosot Hospital.
