Recently, Souphanouvong University in Luang Prabang, Laos held the China (Yunnan) - Laos (Luang Prabang) Higher Education Exhibition and the award ceremony for the Laos National Labor Medal. On behalf of the Lao government, the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education and Sports, Daravone KITTIPHANH, presented the Laos “National Labor Medal” to Kunming University of Science and Technology. The Chairman of the University Council, Tang Jiahua, received the medal on behalf of the university. The Laos “National Labor Medal” is the first collective honor awarded by the Lao government to a Chinese university.

The Vice Minister of the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Daily, VANXAY TAWINYAN, the Executive Vice Chairman of the China-Laos Cooperation Committee, SAYSANA SITTHIPHONE, as well as representatives from various universities in the Yunnan education delegation to Laos, faculty and students from various colleges of Souphanouvong University, and representatives from vocational schools in northern Laos, totaling more than 500 people, attended the award ceremony for the Laos “National Labor Medal.”

On behalf of the Minister of the Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, the President of Souphanouvong University, Vira Anoulak, read out the award decision signed by the Prime Minister of Laos, Somxay Siphandone: The “Cross of Labour” is awarded to Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) for its outstanding contributions to Laos and for accelerating the advancement of the friendly cooperative relationship between China and Laos.


In recent years, Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) has adhered to the core of serving national strategies, focusing on the goal of making Yunnan a radiation center for South Asia and Southeast Asia. The university has actively promoted the deep integration of cooperation in education, culture, science and technology, achieving fruitful results. These efforts have provided strong support for regional economic and social development as well as the implementation of major national strategies.
KUST will continue to leverage education as a key pillar, deepening international cooperation and educational innovation, and constantly promoting regional sustainable development and cultural exchange. The university is committed to contributing “KUST strength” to the construction of an education radiation center for South Asia and Southeast Asia.
