Headed by Tang Jiahua, the delegation went to the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Material Science and Engineering in NTU to experience the running and governing of the first-class university, observing the class teaching of the National Institute of Education and the key laboratories. The delegation also engaged in discussion with faculty leaders, project team and laboratory directors and scholars. They gained an in-depth understanding of NTU including highlight measures and practical experience of school operations and management mechanisms, discipline construction, teacher evaluation, talent training, scientific research, equipment-sharing and experimental security management. Additionally, a cooperative consensus has been reached to jointly develop world-class professional courses and expert workstations, which will encourage mutual visits and academic exchanges, strengthen the cooperation between basic research and industrial science and technology, and introduce doctoral graduates and postdoctoral talents for employment at KUST.

During the visit to NTU, the delegation held the “Symposium for the Recruitment of Yunnan Talents Studying Abroad”. Tang Jiahua welcomed the six Yunnan Ph.D. candidates from Nanyang Technological University, stressed the desire of the Yunnan province government and KUST for overseas high-level talents, and introduced the fundamental status of the university and the growth of related disciplines. He honestly extended an invitation for them to work at KUST in the future and hoped that they would continue to act with an optimistic and diligent manner, so as to realize the greatest value in their careers in relation to the nation. After in-depth exchanges, all six doctors stated their initial intention to join KUST. The university and related faculties will stay in touch with them and be prepared for the recruitment.

Tang and the delegation also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) to foster cooperation and further strengthen the agreement. Hong Liqi, Vice President of SUTD, gave a brief overview of the university at the meeting, covering School Philosophy, Teaching and Research, Student Employment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Research Platforms, and Master's Programmes. Tang Jiahua expressed his gratitude to Hong Liqi for the support to the international cooperation between the two universities and offered support for the upcoming cooperation in the joint cultivation of Masters students majoring in Science and Technology and Design, as well as the students' academic and research exchange activities etc. Tang was full of anticipation for future cooperation in matters related to the collaborative construction of academic disciplines, scientific and technological cooperation, teachers' training programs, and innovation and entrepreneurship education, etc. He hoped that the signing of the MOU would be an opportunity to enhance the channels for cooperation, promote the expansion of cooperation in other fields, and continually advance deep international exchanges.

At the meeting, attendees watched a video of the trainees school life. Representatives of the trainees gave a briefing on their courses, daily life, cross-cultural communication and temporary party activities, as well as studying experience. Four members of the visiting delegation also shared their reflections on the visit. Finally, Tang Jiahua gave all the trainees the following words: study, exchange, summarize, safe and sound, wishing that they could fully take advantage of this opportunity of studying abroad, by concentrating on the overall goal of creating a high-level research-oriented university with distinctive characteristics, and converting the knowledge they had systematically acquired into long-term experience in managing the university, conducting teaching and scientific research, as well as providing service and management through communication and summary. Last but not least, Tang expected that the trainees will contribute to the double first-class university project of KUST with increased confidence and tenacity.
