On September 27th, the event of Global Confucius Institute Day 2023 themed "Believe in the Future, Draw Wonderful Pictures Together" hosted by the Chinese International Education Foundation (CIEF), was held in Beijing. Wang Hua, president of Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Alejandro Genet, president of Casimiro Sotelo Montenegro National University of Nicaragua, and Alfredo Lobato, vice president of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (Managua) (UANA Managua) attended the event. Yang Wei, the chairman of CIEF awarded the plaque of the Confucius Institute at UNAN Managua to both universities.
On behalf of both sides, Wang Hua delivered a speech. He pointed out that KUST had grasped the major opportunity of the restoration of the diplomatic and commercial relationship between China and Nicaragua, and took the lead in cooperating with UANA in the field of education. The two sides jointly completed the application of the Confucius Institute and obtained the approval of CIEF. The joint construction of the Confucius Institute became the first programme implemented for people-to-people exchanges between China and Nicaragua, which opened a new window for Nicaragua to understand China and Yunnan.
After the awarding ceremony, Wang Hua held a talk with Alejandro Genet and Alfredo Lobato. Both sides said that they would rely on the Confucius Institute at UANA Managua to deepen cooperation in the fields of non-ferrous metals, energy and mineral industry, material science, agricultural technology and food engineering, and strengthen exchanges between teachers and students, so as to make active explorations and efforts to effectively promote scientific and educational exchanges, people-to-people bonds and mutual learning between China and Nicaragua.
As the largest university with the strongest scientific and educational strength in Nicaragua, UANA Managua is a model university in Nicaragua which enjoys a good reputation in Central America.
