From September 18th to 24th, KUST sent eighty graduate students, including 72 master’s students and eight doctoral students, to Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to participate in an academic exchange programme and educational travel.

The one-week exchange programme was organized around five themes, including The Charm of Multiculturalism in Singapore, Intercultural Communication and Negotiation, Problem-Based Learning, NTUs Student-Centered Residential Education, as well as Artificial Intelligence and Modern Life. Students were able to encounter diverse cultures through a variety of teaching methods and lessons that delineated Singapore’s cultural contexts. In addition, they also experienced PBL through group work and gained insights into the enriched design of residential courses at NTU and the history of AI.

Outside the classroom, the students also visited landmarks in Singapore. They observed the clear distinction between seawater and freshwater at the Marina Barrage and learned the government’s solution to the water shortage. At Singapore City Gallery, they viewed the miniature of urban architecture and learned about the extraordinary planning and charm of the city. Besides this, they walked into a primordial rainforest to embrace nature at Singapore Botanic Gardens, the first World Heritage Site in Singapore, viewing more than 3000 kinds of valuable orchids. During the visit to the National University of Singapore (NUS), they strolled around the campus to experience the great environment and learning atmosphere of the top university in Singapore.

As the saying goes, “It’s better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books”. The exchange programme has helped students to learn about the latest cutting-edge research in related fields and has improved their awareness and ability of cross-cultural communication, as well as their understanding of multiculturalism in Singapore. Thanks to the programme, the students’ academic and practical capability has been enhanced, and a broad international horizon has been built.
