KUST sent two undergraduates and one doctoral student to the United Kingdom to participate in the 2023 Oxford Prospects Programmes which lasted from August 7th to 27th. Through this exchange programme, the students have enhanced their interdisciplinary thinking, broadened their international horizons, cultivated a sense of cross-cultural communication and improved their international competence.
A number of renowned professors were invited to this 20-day study programme to deliver more than 20 lectures on key topics such as Oxford’s culture and history, the STEM curriculum, the teaching and learning under the tutorial system, and Oxford’s interdisciplinary training system. There were special lectures including a talk by the producer of Downton Abbey on the making of it, and group work on film making and project presentations. Besides these, counselling on studying abroad, sharing sessions with Oxford students and classes on British etiquette were also included in the programme. In addition, the students had a cultural city tour of London, visiting famous attractions such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Tower Bridge, etc., as well as the Silverstone Formula Racing Museum and Shakespeare’s former residence. They were also organised to take a trip to the University of Cambridge for exchange and study. During the programme, the project group also held a summer ball and an Oxford full-dress dinner. The students not only experienced the culture and history of the UK in an all-round way, but also made friends with talents from all over the world and enhanced their ability of international communication.
This study programme has been held for six years since KUST students’ first visit to the University of Oxford in 2017. During the six years, KUST has selected more than 50 students to participate in the programme online and offline. As active responses to the national strategy of invigorating China through science, education and talents, these exchange activities have deepened KUST’s international exchanges and talent cultivation, and further promoted the opening up of KUST’s education to the outside world as well as the internationalisation of talent cultivation.
