From 15th to 17th August, the International Symposium on the Industrial Development of Green Energy and Carbon Neutrality was held in Kunming, co-hosted by the Faculty of Management and Economics of KUST and the Carbon Neutral Innovation Joint Laboratory started by Nagoya University and SinoCarbon Innovation & Investment Co., Ltd. Experts and scholars from the government, universities, research institutes, and enterprises gathered together to carry out academic exchanges on topics including climate change, the industrial development of green energy, the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals, relevant international cooperation, the construction of disciplines related to energy economics, and talent training. Wang Qiliang, Vice President of KUST, presided over the symposium.
At the opening ceremony, Luo Chenghui, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Science and Technology of Yunnan Province, introduced the developmental advantages of green energy industries in Yunnan Province to the participants and elaborated on the idea of building a market-oriented green technology innovation system in the province.
Tang Jiahua, Chair of the University Council of KUST, introduced the achievements of KUST in scientific research and talent cultivation in the fields of green energy industrial development and carbon neutrality.
Professor Zhao Zhongxiu, President of the University of International Business and Economics, delivered a speech through video, appreciating the role of this conference in boosting international exchanges and cooperation, driving the international development of green energy and promoting carbon neutrality.
The convener of the meeting, Professor Xue Jinjun, read out a written speech for this meeting from Professor Tadashi Sonoda, former Dean of the Faculty of Economics of Nagoya University, and gave all the experts and scholars present a warm welcome. He stressed that this meeting aimed to promote the in-depth “government-industry-university-institute” cooperation in Yunnan Province, to exploit the energy advantages of Yunnan Province, and to develop and give full play to the new energy industry so as to jointly build a resilient multinational energy industry chain.
Professor Piao Shilong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Pan Jiahua, Member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Yang Lei, Associate Dean of the Institute of Energy of Peking University, Mr. Matthew, Director of the Energy Division of the Energy Department of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Professor Zhu Xufeng, Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, Dr. Xu Zhonghua, Asian Vice President of R&D of Total Energies, Professor Liu Zhu of Tsinghua University, Chief Scientist of the Institute for Natural Carbon Sink Research, and Professor Mi Zhifu, Associate Dean of UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, delivered keynote speeches for the conference.
With Professor Wei Chu of Renmin University of China, Professor Tang Renhu, Chairman of Beijing SinoCarbon Innovation & Investment Co., Ltd., and Professor Xiao Yuanfei of KUST taking the chair, Professor Gao Yuning of Tsinghua University, Associate Professor Long Yin of University of Tokyo, Associate Professor Wang Ran of the University of International Business and Economics, Professor Fang Tao of Memorial University of Newfoundland, Dr. Chayodom Sabhasri of the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, Dr. Zaw Oo of the Myanmar Center for Economic and Social Development, Dr. Keophousone Phonhalath of the National University of Laos, Engineer Yang Haoyu of China Three Gorges Corporation, Professor Qian Xiaojun of Tsinghua University, Professor Chen Hongbo of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Yan Fei of Hubei University of Economics, Professor Liu Chengqing of Shandong Normal University, and Professor Wang Jingmin of Shandong University of Finance and Economics gave special reports for the symposium respectively.
The International Symposium on the Industrial Development of Green Energy and Carbon Neutrality provides an important opportunity not only for the cooperation and exchanges among governments, enterprises and universities, but also for jointly conducting cooperation on green energy projects and promoting the synergetic development of the green energy industry. This conference advocates giving full play to the advantages of renewable energy resources in Yunnan Province and vigorously developing the green energy industry in Yunnan Province so as to serve the whole country and even South and Southeast Asia, thus providing the world with China’s wisdom and China’s solutions to promote green development.
