Under the background of the Sino-Laos Community with a shared future, the demand for Chinese talent in the Boten Special Economic Zone has risen rapidly. The KUST-Souphanouvong University (SU) Confucius Institute has discussed and planned the Chinese-language-education matters needed in the region in the early stages. On June 22nd, the Confucius Institute delegation negotiated with the Management Committee of the Boten Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the Yunnan Haicheng Industry Group Co., Ltd.
During the meeting, the three parties discussed the establishment of Chinese-language-education stations, as well as services and teaching scopes. They all agreed that establishing Chinese-language-education stations could promote Chinese teaching in the SEZ and carry out the “Chinese Plus Vocational Education” project in a more targeted way, thus further promoting the coordinated development of the economy and international-Chinese-language teaching in Boten, Mohan and other Sino-Lao cooperative areas. The three parties expressed their common expectation for multi-dimensional, in-depth, and wide-ranging cooperation in Chinese-language education in the Boten SEZ and the Mohan Port.
In addition, the Confucius Institute will set up a Chinese-information consulting platform in Boten, the first station in Laos to serve the Sino-Laos high-speed railway. The consultation platform will serve more locals entering China from Laos; at the same time, it will also provide information to Chinese people from China to Laos. It will focus on serving the operation of the Sino-Laos railway so that the two countries can collaborate in more fields and jointly create a new situation in which the economic development of Laos and international-Chinese-language education are coordinated.
The Boten SEZ is a new development area for the “Belt and Road” initiative and the “China-Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor (CICPEC).” It is a new hub for win-win cooperation between China and Laos, which will benefit China, Laos, and Thailand. To actively respond to the national policy, the KUST-SU Confucius Institute will continue to leverage its strengths as a comprehensive university focusing on engineering, combining science and technology, highlighting industrial and regional characteristics, and coordinating development of multiple disciplines. In addition, it will vigorously develop the “Chinese Plus Vocational and Technical Education” project to lay a good foundation for the educational exchange between Boten and Mohan.
