On the afternoon of May 13th, KUST and the University of Strathclyde held an online video conference to discuss the partnership and international exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. YI Jianhong, Vice President of KUST, and Alex Galloway, Vice President of the University of Strathclyde, attended the meeting. In addition the meeting was attended by relevant personnel from the Division of International Cooperation and the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at KUST, as well as the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde. The meeting was chaired by YANG Yanjie, Vice President of the Returned Students and Scholars Association of Yunnan Province (RSSA-YN).
YI Jianhong introduced basic information about KUST, including the scope and characteristics of the university, its training systems and discipline development, and the university’s foreign cooperation and exchanges. He said that the University of Strathclyde, a world-renowned university with rich academic resources, has a high level especially in relation to energy innovation, energy policy, and sustainable development. He hoped that the meeting would kick off bilateral cooperation and exchanges. He shared his hopes that the two universities could cooperate in teacher-student exchanges and scientific research, among other aspects in the future.
During the meeting, the two sides focused on the cooperation in talent training and scientific research in chemical engineering. CHEN Xinzhi, Professor of KUST, Stuart Shorthouse, Director of the Division of International Cooperation of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, and Professor Jan Sefcik, Director of the Department of Chemical Engineering, each respectively introduced the related departments and faculties and discussed the modes and details of further cooperation between the two universities.
Founded in 1796 and located in Glasgow, Scotland, the University of Strathclyde (UK) is a world-class public comprehensive research university with an excellent academic reputation. It is ranked 70th in the world in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 and 300th in the QS World University Rankings 2021, and has won the title of “Five-star University” for consecutive years. In addition, according to the Guardian rankings, it is ranked among the top 15 universities in the UK. Its Chemical Engineering Major is ranked among the top 5 in the UK.
