On September 21, KUST and China Mobile Yunnan Company held the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation on KUST Chenggong campus, and unveiled the "5G Joint Innovation Lab". The ceremony was attended by Chair of the University Council ZHANG Yingjie, President WANG Xueqin, Vice President SHU Hongchun, General Manager GE Songhai, Deputy General Manager HUANG Zhenwang and FENG Yi, and the relevant heads of KUST and China Mobile Yunnan Company.

At the ceremony, Chair ZHANG Yingjie and General Manager GE Songhai jointly unveiled the signboard of "5G Joint Innovation Lab". President WANG Xueqin and General Manager GE Songhai delivered speeches respectively and signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of the university and the enterprise.

President WANG Xueqin expressed gratitude to China Mobile Yunnan Company for its technical, financial and manpower support on the packaged campus card, information security and one-stop information management. He said that to build a first-class university, the university must have a first-class campus environment in addition to first-class disciplines and talents, especially the excellent construction of the digital campus. He expressed his hope that the cooperation between China Mobile Yunnan Company and KUST will be promoted to a new level through the establishment of "5G Joint Innovation Lab".

General Manager GE SongHai said the strategic cooperation is a new starting point. China Mobile Yunnan Company will work together with KUST, make full use of its strengths — its own expertise, network resources and technology — to build "5G Joint Innovation Lab", speed up the deep integration of such technologies as 5G, cloud computing, big data, edge cloud, artificial intelligence, video and virtual augmented reality into the regional characteristic industry. Both sides will accelerate powerful combination in the overall solution, pilot demonstration, market development, project progress, delivery, service and other aspects, to form a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation and industry-education integration, jointly cultivate application-oriented high-end talents for "Digital Yunnan" and work to become the industry application model.

According to the agreement, the two sides will work to deepen strategic cooperation comprehensively in key areas such as party construction and talent training, scientific research cooperation and campus information construction to build the "China Mobile - KUST 5G Joint Innovation Lab", pursue the collaborative innovation of industry, education, research and application in areas such as cloud computing and big data, artificial intelligence, Internet of Thing and block chain, to promote the commercialization and application of scientific and technological findings. The new generation of information and communication technology presented by 5G will lead and promote Yunnan’s digital economy to achieve the leapfrog development of high quality.
