On September 9th, when the 36th Teacher’s Day was around the corner, the alumni home of KUST welcomed a special guest, Mr. LIU Zongzhou，who is in his eighties. Mr. LIU, majoring in Non-Ferrous Metallurgy, is one of the first batch of KUST graduates ever since its establishment in 1954. After his graduation in 1958, Mr. LIU started his teaching career in KUST. For 66 years, he has been loving KUST, and for 38 years, he has been teaching here.
Mr. LIU presented two couplets to the KUST Alumni Association, one of them going like this: “The kindness of drips of water will be rewarded with a spring, and valuable life can be realized only by hard work for a lifetime.” Between the lines was his longing for KUST, his Alma Mater. Besides, Mr. LIU donated 12,000 yuan in cash to KUST, all his 18-year salary income from 1958 to 1976. His donation has injected “fresh blood” into the KUST Innovation Award Fund, which was donated and initiated by Academician Dai Yongnian. Mr. LIU’s sincere love for KUST, his Alma Mater, is really admirable.
Plainly dressed and gray-haired, Mr. LIU was hale and hearty when talking about the past of KUST. This elderly gentleman shared with us his memory of being the captain in a transnational friendly football match with Vietnamese youths during the Sino-Vietnamese Youth Festival. And he also recalled his teaching career, in which he had cultivated a group of outstanding students, including ZHAO Chunjiang, LIN Yufeng, QU Yongfu, and so on.
