Professor LIANG’s Research Published in Materials Today

Recently, International top academic journal “Materials Today” (impact factor 31.04) published a review article entitled “Designing inorganic electrolytes for solid-state Li-ion batteries: A perspective of LGPS (Li10GeP2S12) and garnet,” with Prof. LIANG Feng of the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, KUST as the primary and corresponding author, andResearcher LU Jun of Argonne National Laboratory asthe co-corresponding author.

After reviewing the history of Solid-state Li-ion batteries (SSLBs) and solid-state electrolytes (SSE), this article provided a review of the discovery, structure, ion-conduction mechanism, and an application of LGPS-type and garnet-type Li-ion conductors as two representative SSEs. In doing so the aim was to extract principles for the future design and discovery of favorable SSLBs. In addition, this paper summarized the barriers to the commercialization of solid-state Li-ion batteries, discussed the latest strategies to overcome the stability and compatibility of electrode/SSE interfaces and to inhibit the growth of Li dendrites in detail. As well the paper discussed the broad application prospect and future development direction of SSLBs. Overall, the work is of great significance in accelerating the development and application of SSLBs with high energy density, good stability, and a long cycle life.

This workwas financially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the Applied Basic Research Programs of Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department, the Academic Cyanine Programs of KUST, and the Freely Exploring Fund for Academicians in Yunnan Province.
