From December 10 to 19, a KUST delegation led by President Wang Hua visited universities, research institutes, and enterprises in Germany, Switzerland, and Serbia to consolidate and deepen the traditional friendly relations between KUST and Europe, expand new partners and open up new areas of cooperation.

Met with Sylvia Schattauer, President of Technische Universität Clausthal
From 10th to 14th, Wang Hua and the delegation paid a friendly visit to TU Clausthal and scientific research institutes, and Technische Hochschule Nürnberg. After arriving in Germany, the delegation firstly called on Mr. Huang Wei, the Education Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Germany. Wang Hua introduced the achievements of KUST long-term cooperation with Germany and the purpose of this visit to Huang Wei. Huang Wei highly praised the past achievements and gave guidance on the university’s future educational cooperation with Germany.

Visited the laboratory of Institute of Metallurgy of TU Clausthal

Visited the laboratory of Clausthal Center of Material Technology
During the visit, the delegation met with Dr. Sylvia Schattauer, the new president of TU Clausthal, Prof. Karl-Heinz Spitzer, the director of the Institute of Metallurgy, and other personnel in Gosla and Clausthal-Zellerfeld, respectively, further deepened the traditional friendship with TU Clausthal, determined faculty exchange and student cooperation programs, as well as signed a memorandum of understanding for talent recruitment with Prof. Heinz Palkowski of the Institute of Metallurgy. The delegation not only carried out academic exchanges with the Simulation Science Center Clausthal-Göttingen and the Energy Research Centre of Lower Saxony, identified specific projects for strengthening personnel exchanges and academic cooperation between the two universities, but also visited the laboratory center of the Institute of Metallurgy and the Clausthal Center of Material Technology, learned the advanced experience of German universities in equipment fabrication and laboratory management. Moreover, the delegation toured the student dormitories of TU Clausthal and visited KUST students studying there.

Attended the keynote speech on China Day at TU Clausthal
Wang Hua delivered a keynote speech at the China Day event organized by Professor Michael Zhengmeng Hou of the China Competence Center of TU Clausthal, carried out the publicity of China’s national conditions and overseas recruitment activities for Chinese students. The delegation visited Volkswagen's new energy vehicle project in Wolfsburg, met with Prof. Uwe Mummert, Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, Vice President for International Affairs and held working talks with Professor Wei Naiming and others from Faculty of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and Faculty of Economics and Management of Technische Hochschule Nürnberg in Nürnberg, implemented matters between the City College (Sino-German College) and Technische Hochschule Nürnberg in the field of vocational education such as cooperative education, curriculum introduction, and exchanges between faculties and students. This is the first high-level German vocational education university determined cooperative relationship with KUST since the establishment of the Sino-German College, which plays a positive role in promoting the introduction of the German dual system vocational education model into the Sino-German College.

Visited the Department of Nuclear Medicine of Universität Bern (UniBe)
On the 15th and 16th, the delegation visited Switzerland and met with professors such as Axel Rominger, the head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine of UniBe, in Bern. The professors happily accepted Wang Hua's invitation and decided to visit the Medical School and Affiliated Hospital of KUST at an appropriate time to give lectures and cooperate in discipline construction, supporting the creation of a "Double First-Class" discipline in the life sciences discipline of KUST. The delegation also had working talks with Professor Shi Kuangyu from the Department of Nuclear Medicine and, accompanied by him, visited the campus and medical equipment. In addition, the delegation met with representatives of Chinese students studying at UniBe and carried out overseas recruitment promotion.

Visited Amberg Technologies in Swiss
In Zurich, the delegation met with Johannes Müller, the General Manager of Amberg Technologies. Dr. Xiao Shu'an, the sales manager of the Asia-Pacific region, introduced the company's advanced tunnel and track detection systems and their applications around the world. KUST and Amberg Technologies discussed the prospects of jointly applying and deeply developing its technologies in serving the construction of the radiation center facing South and Southeast Asia. Amberg Technologies expressed strong interest in joining the Higher Research Institute of KUST, cooperating in infrastructure construction and deep mineral exploration in Yunnan Province and surrounding countries, and establishing an overseas training base for KUST students in Switzerland.

Visited Bor Institute for Mining and Metallurgy
On the 17th and 18th, the delegation visited Serbia and held talks with professors from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy at University of Belgrade on related disciplines, reaching a cooperation intention on scientific research and joint talent cultivation. Both sides agreed to closely cooperate on matters such as further strengthening mutual visits of teachers and mutual establishment of research centers, so as to provide technological support and talent guarantee for Serbian enterprises participating in the high-quality construction of the “Belt and Road” and our enterprises in Serbia.

Visited the Copper electrolytic workshop of Serbia Zijin Copper Doo Bor
During the visit, the delegation visited the International Department of Zijin Mining and the Bor Mining and Metallurgy Institute, and went on a field trip of the open pit, the general control room, the smelters, and the electrolytic copper workshops of Serbia Zijin Copper Doo Bor and Serbia Zijin Mining Doo Bor on the basis of detailed talks with the general manager. They also inspected the mine and factory environmental protection facilities and had an in-depth conversation with the management of the company. The two sides reached to carry out a number of joint projects including scientific and technological research, educational upgrading of Chinese managers, training of local employees, training of local employees, and construction of overseas internship bases for KUST students. The university will join forces with all parties to actively establish the China - Serbia Mining and Metallurgy Research Center, expand the university's service for the high-quality construction of the "Belt and Road" to Europe, and become a practitioner of consolidating the traditional friendship between China and Serbia.
This visit is the second time KUST visit to Europe after 4 years, deepening cooperation with traditional partners such as Technische Universität Clausthal, Amberg Technologies, Serbia Zijin Mining Doo Bor, and opening up new areas of cooperation with institutions such as Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, Universität Bern, University of Belgrade, and Bor Mining and Metallurgy Institute. A series of cooperation projects have been negotiated in the fields of overseas doctoral recruitment, introduction of high-level professors, joint scientific research and platform construction, teacher-student exchanges, talent cultivation, vocational education cooperation, and construction of overseas internship bases for students.
The visit has yielded fruitful results, consolidated the traditional friendship between the university and first-class universities and scientific research institutions in Germany and Switzerland, promoted bilateral cooperation in scientific research and talent cultivation, played an important role in promoting the construction of first-class disciplines of KUST, deepening international exchanges between teachers and students, and promoting international exchanges and cooperation of KUST. It will have a positive impact on the introduction of advanced experience from developed countries in Europe to support KUST in creating "Double First-Class" and serving radiation center construction, as well as on KUST going out to serve Chinese and foreign institutions and enterprises participating in the high-quality construction of the "Belt and Road".
