On December 4, a delegation of National University of Laos (NUL) led by Dexanourath Seneduangdeth, the Acting President of NUL, visited Kunming University of Science and Technology. Tang Jiahua (Chair of the University Council of KUST), Wang Hua (President of KUST), and Liu Dianwen (Vice President of KUST) received the guests and had a discussion and exchange on behalf of KUST.

On behalf of KUST, Tang Jiahua welcomed the delegation’s visit, introduced the development achievements of KUST since its establishment 70 years ago, and reviewed the history of educational cooperation between KUST and NUL. He said the visit led by President Dexanourath Seneduangdeth fully reflects the high importance that NUL attaches to the construction of the Sino-Laos Institute of Engineering and Technology, and expressed the hope that this discussion would be able to reach a consensus on specific matters of cooperation between the two sides to ensure the smooth implementation of the program, jointly provide talents and intellectual support for the economic and social development of Laos, and give a demonstration for the cultivation of high-level skilled talents in Mekong region.

Wang Hua briefly reviewed the history of educational exchanges and cooperation between KUST and NUL and put forward targeted suggestions on the mechanism and methods of joint talent training between the two sides. Liu Dianwen reported on the progress of the construction of the Sino-Laos Institute of Engineering and Technology of KUST, as well as exchanged and discussed the next work plan with the Lao side.

Dexanourath Seneduangdeth introduced the basic situation of NUL and expressed his gratitude to KUST for its attention to the cooperation between the two universities. He indicated that the young students from NUL are strongly willing to study in China, and the Sino-Laos joint training program of high-level engineering and technical talents has broad prospects. The Lao side will set up a program team as soon as possible to further strengthen the connection with the Sino-Laos Institute of Engineering and Technology of KUST, to promote the cooperation between the two universities continuously.

The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the Sino-Laos joint talent training model, major setting, and curriculum construction at the discussion.

Heads of the Division of International Cooperation, the School of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, the Faculty of Information Engineering and Automation, the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering, the School of International Education, the Comprehensive Affairs Management Department of Yunnan Advanced Research Institute, and the Sino-Laos Institute of Engineering and Technology of KUST, and heads of the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture of NUL attended the discussion.
