Delegation of the President of the Chilean River Region Visits KUST
On June 3rd, Luis Cuvertino, President of the Chilean River Region, led a delegation of six people to visit KUST. Tang Jiahua, Chair of the University Council of KUST, and Zhang Jiapeng, Deputy Secretary of the Yunnan Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, attended the discussion. Yi Jianhong, Vice President of KUST, hosted the meeting.
Tang Jiahua first welcomed Luis Cuvertino and his delegation, and provided them with an overview of the history, discipline construction, international cooperation, and future direction of KUST. He remarked that despite the geographical distance between China and Chile, the two nations have enjoyed a long-standing friendship. With the further development of the bilateral relations, educational exchanges and cooperation have become increasingly close. Tang Jiahua hoped that the two sides could maximize their advantages in implementing practical cooperation in talent cultivation, faculty and student exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and cultural exchanges, and jointly create a promising future for higher education in both countries. Tang Jiahua also expressed his appreciation for Luis Cuvertino’s revisit to KUST on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.
Luis Cuvertino expressed his gratitude to Tang Jiahua and KUST for the warm reception and his appreciation of the university's contributions and achievements over the years. He said that KUST is a renowned university in central and western China, and it boasts remarkable achievements in talent cultivation, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation. He also conveyed his pleasure in representing the Chilean River Region to visit KUST and hoped the visit would reinforce the bonds between the two parties and create new possibilities for future collaboration to enhance the well-being of the two peoples. Luis Cuvertino expressed that he would commit to promoting educational cooperation and exchange between the Chilean River Region and KUST. Furthermore, he extended his best wishes for KUST’s 70th anniversary and his anticipation to revisit the university in the future.
After the meeting, Tang Jiahua and Yi Jianhong accompanied Luis Cuvertino and his delegation to visit the Yunnan Provincial Field Scientific Observation and Research Station on the water-soil-crop system in seasonal arid regions, the Yunnan Provincial Key Laboratory of High-Efficient Water Use and Green Production of Characteristic Crops, the Yunnan Modern Manufacturing Research Center for Specialty Foods, and the State Key Laboratory of Primate Biomedical Research. During the visit, the two sides engaged in friendly and pragmatic discussions and exchanges on potential cooperation.
The heads of the University Council, the Division of International Cooperation, the Graduate School, the Faculty of Modern Agricultural Engineering, the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering, and the School of International Education participated in the discussion.
