On November 3rd, Nell Calloway, granddaughter of General Chennault (founder of the Flying Tigers, officially known as the American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force) and Board Chairman of Chennault Aviation Academy, along with her son Michael Calloway Jr., paid a visit to the Faculty of Civil Aviation and Aeronautics at KUST. Yi Jianhong, Vice President of KUST, engaged in the meeting, as well as heads of the Division of International Cooperation and the Faculty of Civil Aviation and Aeronautics, and the relevant director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province.

Yi Jianhong paid homage to the Flying Tigers’s pirit, he hopes to foster mutual understanding so that to expand opportunities for collaboration through this visit. The director of the Faculty of Civil Aviation and Aeronautics gave a general overview of KUST and the history of the faculty, as well as talent development, accreditation, construction of scientific research platforms, development planning, and other fundamental information. Nell Calloway and the delegation appreciated the Faculty of Civil Aviation and Aeronautics for its educational philosophy, teaching conditions, and spoke highly of the independently developed virtual simulation experiment system, with the hope to further advance and deepen mutual exchanges and cooperation. During the meeting, the two parties engaged in a thorough communication on collaborative talent training that embodies and perpetuates the spirit of Flying Tigers.

Before the meeting, Nell Calloway and the delegation toured the the Flying Tigers and Eagle Exhibition Hall, Yunnan Aviation Education History, and related laboratories. Nell Calloway was profoundly touched by photographs depicting glorious years of the joint war of resistance between the two nations. She identified her grandfather and mother in the photo, who appeared much younger than that in her memory, and also recounted numerous captivating stories and emotions.
