“The China-Laos Railway strengthens the bond between the two peoples, and the Chinese Bridge Programme promotes their friendship”. On September 18th, 2023, twenty Laotian students from Souphanouvong University took the D887 train from Kunming and safely returned to Luang Prabang, Laos. Their safe return marked the successful conclusion of the 2023 “Study and Experience in KUST and Yunnan” Programme of the “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp for Laotian Students.

The 14-day summer camp, organized by KUST, opened a door for Laotian students to study Chinese and experience ethnic cultures in Yunnan. During their stay, they immersed themselves in the campus culture, attended the Chinese classes, and explored the Geoscience Museum of KUST. They also visited Daguan Pavilion, where they read the famous 180-character long antithetical couplet written by a scholar named Sun Ranweng during the Qing Dynasty. Additionally, they went to Dali and Lijiang to experience the culture of the Bai, Naxi, and Lisu ethnic groups as well as the local intangible cultural heritage. The camp helped them gain a comprehensive understanding of China and Yunnan's ethnic minority culture, and enhanced the friendship between the Chinese and Laotian people.
KUST has been organizing activities related to the “Chinese Bridge” for 12 years, aiming to promote friendship among young people from around the world including Laos, Italy, and Thailand, and to provide them with a window to understand China. In recent years, with the establishment of the Laos Chinese Language Education and Research Center at KUST and the approval of other related projects, KUST’s international Chinese education has made rapid advancements.
