From August 7th to 18th, 39 undergraduate and master students were sent to the University of Ulsan (UOU), South Korea, to participate in the 2023 International Youth Leadership Summer Camp and Urban Aesthetic Education Study Tour. Through the programme, the students enhanced their interdisciplinary thinking, broadened their international perspectives, developed cross-cultural communicative awareness, and improved their global competence.

On the day of their arrival in South Korea, the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Busan, Chen Ribiao, sent a welcoming message, saying: “Young people are the hope and future of China, and they are also an important force in consolidating and developing friendly relations between China and South Korea. I hope the students from KUST will gain a deeper understanding of various aspects of South Korea and make friends widely.”

During the 12-day study programme, many renowned professors lectured on South Korean culture and history, Ulsan city development, and the UOU’s interdisciplinary training system. Additionally, they led students to experience the city culture and have an in-depth understanding of all aspects of Ulsan. At the end of the programme, UOU presented the students with a certificate of completion and took a group photo together.

This study tour marked the 10th anniversary of KUST’s first visit to UOU in 2013, and it also resumed the exchange activities between teachers and students of KUST and UOU after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The successful organization of the study tour deepened KUST’s international exchanges and talent development and further promoted the opening up of KUST’s education to the outside world. Through this study tour, KUST positively responded to the strategy of invigorating China through science and technology and developing a quality workforce and actively promoted the internationalization of talent cultivation.
