On July 20th, Professor Liu Fudong, who is from the University of Central Florida (UCF), gave an academic presentation entitled “New Concept Environmental Catalysts with Controlled Local Coordination Structure and Structural Evolution” at the Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering (FESE), KUST.
The presentation centred on research into the catalyst structure regulation and control of CO oxidation, NH3 oxidation, and H2-SCR reaction, focusing on the important role of local coordination structure regulation and control of metal sites in catalytic reactions and the successful fabrication of Pt atomic single-layer (PtASL) structures which have 100% metal dispersion, a precisely controlled local coordination environment and can effectively facilitate CO oxidation by using a surface defect enrichment strategy.
After the presentation, Professor Liu had in-depth exchanges and discussions with teachers and students of FESE on issues including the structural design of supported catalysts, environmental control strategies for metal coordination, and scientific research ideas.
Dr. Liu, now an assistant professor of UCF, got his bachelor's and doctor's degrees from Tsinghua University and Research Centre for Eco-Environmental Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively. He was once a research assistant and a research associate of the Research Centre before engaging in the post-doctoral research in the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research focus is on environmental catalysis, nanomaterial synthesis, pollution control for new concept vehicles, conversion of greenhouse gas and energy molecules, single-atom and cluster catalysis, as well as deep characterization of environmental materials by X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
