On December 14th, KUST-Souphanouvong University Confucius Institute and Luang Prabang Maintenance and Management Center of the China-Laos Railway held a signing ceremony at Luang Prabang Station of the China-Laos Railway, which signified their joint efforts to establish a Chinese teaching center and a Chinese service platform.
On November 30th, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, held talks with Thongloun Sisoulith, general secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao president, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. President Xi stressed: “The mountains and water of China and Laos are of the same origin, and the two peoples have been kind and good neighbors since ancient times. Since the signing of the action plan on building the China-Laos community with a shared future in April 2019, China and Laos have concentrated their efforts to realize the plan and have achieved fruitful results. In particular, through making the China-Laos Railway a road of development, happiness and friendship for the peoples of China and Laos, great benefits have been brought to the two peoples and a good example has been set for building ‘the Belt and Road’ and promoting the construction of human community with a shared future.”
The director of KUST-Souphanouvong University Confucius Institute said that the Chinese section of the China-Laos Railway starts in Kunming and ends in Vientiane of Laos. Since the China-Laos Railway officially began operation, the cultivation of high-quality and versatile Chinese talents has become an important source of intellectual support and manpower in terms of the smooth operation of the China-Laos Railway. Relying on the professional characteristics of international Chinese education, the Institute makes full use of the advantages of the Faculty of Transportation Engineering of KUST and the role of the Confucius Institute of Suphanuvong University as the bridge and link. The institute has sent Chinese teachers in relevant professional fields to Luang Prabang Maintenance and Management Center of the China-Laos Railway to give Chinese lessons and technical guidance, so as to contribute to the steady operation of the China-Laos Railway. Mr. Li Ying, Deputy Director of Luang Prabang Maintenance and Management Center of the China-Laos Railway, emphasized that the China-Laos Railway is a landmark project of “the Belt and Road” and a road of friendship that spans mountains and rivers and carries dreams. The Maintenance and Management Center and the Confucius Institute have achieved agreement that the Confucius Institute will send Chinese teachers to teach relevant courses for Lao workers in the Center, which will effectively alleviate the communication barrier between Lao and Chinese workers and promote the training of Lao equipment maintenance talents in a better and faster way.
Suthida, the Lao Dean of KUST-Souphanouvong University Confucius Institute, and representatives of the Chinese and Lao teachers, together with other leaders of Luang Prabang Maintenance and Management Center of the China-Laos Railway and representatives of the Chinese and Lao employees attended the signing ceremony.
