On February 25, the opening ceremony of the “Green Energy Innovation and Technology Talents Training Course,” hosted by KUST and co-organized by the National Energy and Mineral Research Institute of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Laos, was held simultaneously at the Lecture Hall, C.C. Wu Conference Center of KUST and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The following people attended the opening ceremony: CHANSAVATH, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Lao PDR, SESANA, Vice Chairman of the China-Laos Cooperation Committee, MADI, President of the National Energy and Mineral Research Institute of Lao PDR, PURVION and ANUSA, Vice President of the National Energy and Mineral Research Institute of Lao PDR; SONG Guangxing, Vice Director of Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department, WANG Hua, President of KUST, and MA Wenhui, President of Pu’er University.

After the opening ceremony, MA Wenhui, President of Pu’er University and Distinguished Professor of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program, HE Xiangming, Director of the Lithium-ion Battery Laboratory of Nuclear Research Institute of Tsinghua University, and HOU Zhengmeng, Academician of the German Academy of Geosciences and Geotechnical Engineering and Professor of TU Clausthal, respectively each gave wonderful reports.

The training lasted for 20 days, covering theoretical teaching, professional and technical training, and the investigation and exchange of government-industry-academia -research. The 20 participants came from various departments of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Lao PDR, research institutes, energy and mining enterprises, and investors in the energy industry.

Since 2017, guided by the principle of “extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits,” KUST and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Lao PDR have shown an intention to cooperate on talent training and technological innovation in mining and energy industries. The two sides have carried out all-round practical cooperation in technical research and development, talent training and technical exchanges. The first phase of the Laos metallurgical and energy industry development seminar was held in Vientiane, Laos in 2019. This training is the second phase of talent training that is being jointly held.

The training promoted the China-ASEAN cooperation spirit of “mutual trust, mutual understanding, mutual benefit and mutual assistance”. This training also continued to give opportunities to unite the sincere desire for cooperation and enhance the awareness of a community for the shared future. Finally, the training allowed for the realization of the talent pool of engineering and technology in metallurgical and energy fields between China and Laos while continuously injecting new vitality into the China-Laos strategic partnership.

In addition, the opening ceremony was also attended by the following departments and people: the Head of Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department, the Division of International Cooperation of KUST, various faculties of KUST, including the Faculty of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering, and the School of Continuing Education, the Representative Office of KUST in Laos, and all participants of the training.
