On September 27th, the School of International Education (SIE) of KUST held a Mid-Autumn Festival party for Chinese and foreign teachers and students. More than 100 international students from countries including Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Zambia participated in the party.
Firstly, the heads and teachers of the SIE respectively extended their festive wishes to students, and introduced the historical origins and customs of the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. That sparked international students’ enthusiastic participation in response to the topic. Mia Song, a Laotian student, shared her knowledge of Mid-Autumn Festival and her experience of celebrating the festival in China. In addition, she quoted the ancient poem Prelude to Water Melody - How Long Will the Full Moon Appear to express her homesickness as well as her blessings to teachers and classmates. Tianhao Liu, a Pakistani student, said it was the first time that he celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival in Kunming, and he enjoyed the festive atmosphere, gathering with friends, tasting the mooncakes and sharing happiness. Jiexun, a Bangladeshi student, introduced the moving story of Chang'e flying to the moon, expressed his joy in celebrating the festival with teachers and classmates, and said that the school life at KUST makes him feel at home.
The party allowed the international students at KUST to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival together in a harmonious and cordial atmosphere. It not only enabled them to deepen their perception and understanding of traditional Chinese festivals, but also enhanced their communication and promoted the relationship between the teachers and students.
