On May 27th, a four-member delegation from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland (the AGH University), including Piotr Małkowski, Assistant to the President, and Krzysztof Mendrok, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics, visited Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST). They discussed with representatives from the Division of International Cooperation and the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
The head of the Division of International Cooperation, on behalf of KUST, welcomed Piotr Małkowski and his delegation, commended the fruitful collaboration to date, and expressed hopes for deepening ties and expanding cooperation in new areas to achieve mutually beneficial growth. The head of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering outlined an overview of the faculty’s operations and discussed the progress of the joint undergraduate programme in mechanical engineering with the AGH University.
Piotr Małkowski stated that this visit had enhanced his understanding of KUST. He hoped for a closer partnership, especially in faculty and student exchanges, scientific research cooperation, and joint Chinese-foreign cooperative education programmes.
In the afternoon, the delegation toured the laboratories of the Institute of Vibration and Noise Monitoring and Control of Electromechanical Engineering and the Institute of Intelligent Control of Complex Electromechanical Systems, gaining a comprehensive insight into the scientific research and teaching activities of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
Krzysztof Mendrok, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics at the AGH University, delivered a lecture on "Structural Health Monitoring," outlining common strategies and methods in the field. Following the lecture, the delegation visited the Research Centre for Integration and Innovation of Folk Crafts and New Materials at KUST. They expressed profound admiration for traditional Chinese culture, especially the new metal products and the craftsmanship of the inner painting artworks of the Yunnan School.
The AGH University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland, founded in 1919, is one of the largest universities in Poland, ranking third among all universities in the country. It has been consistently ranked as the top technical university in Poland by the Polish Ministry of Education from 2016 to 2022. Its global rank in the 2022 US News World University Rankings is 604. The university comprises 16 faculties, including Mathematics, Physics, Mechanics, Metallurgy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, and Energy, etc., with many taught in English.
