On the afternoon of October 19th, a delegation of 11, led by Pesakeng, vice president of Ubonratchathani Rajabhat University (URU) in Thailand, had a symposium with Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) during the 4th Lancang-Mekong College Students’ Goodwill Games & The 6th South and Southeast Asia College Students Culture and Sports Week in Kunming. Yi Jianhong and Pan Bo, vice presidents of KUST and relevant heads of the Committee of Communist Youth League, the School of International Education, the Institute of Physical Education, the Faculty of Art and Communication, and other departments attended the symposium.

Pesakeng highlighted the successful 20-year cooperation between the two universities in selecting students for non-degree Chinese language learning. He expressed the desire to renew the cooperation agreement between the two universities and broaden collaboration into areas such as information technology, agricultural technology, and tourism management, etc. Additionally, he expressed the hope for breakthroughs in joint training of master's degree students.

Pan Bo emphasized URU’s significant partnership with KUST over the last two decades. KUST has established a high-quality student base for international students in URU in 2022, fostering a strong connection for ongoing exchanges. Besides this, Pan emphasized the importance of enhanced faculty visits, joint scientific research endeavors, exploring collaborative talent training modes, and constructing a more diversified cooperative platform.

The cooperation between KUST and URU dates back to 2005. Three university-level memorandums of cooperation (MOU) were signed during this period. Besides this, two agreements were signed with the Chinese Department of the Faculty of Humanities at URU to exchange undergraduates majoring in Chinese. From 2011 to the present, 204 students participated in the programme. This September, a new cohort of 26 students from URU commenced a one-year study programme at KUST, scheduled to conclude by June next year.
