On the morning of July 7th, a Nicaraguan delegation visited KUST for exchange and discussion. The delegation included Loyda Barreda, Special Envoy of General Secretary of the Nicaraguan Sandinista National Liberation Front and Executive Director of the Institute of National Technology, Ramona Rodríguez, President of the National Council of Universities and Rector of the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, Managua (NAUNM), and Ms. Suli Sama, Director of the National Agricultural and Husbandry Technology Bureau of Nicaragua. Wang Nan, an inspector (Tier-2) from Bureau V of the International Department, Central Committee of the CPC, and heads of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province (Europe, America, Oceania Division), accompanied the delegation on the visit. Tang Jiahua, Chair of the University Council of KUST, attended the symposium and Vice President Yi Jianhong moderated the symposium.

During the symposium, on behalf of KUST, Tang Jiahua extended a warm welcome to the Nicaraguan Delegation and expressed gratitude to the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province for their long-term support for KUST. He gave an overview of KUST and emphasized that KUST would take this opportunity to facilitate the establishment of a Confucius Institute in collaboration with NAUNM. He said KUST aims to deepen the exchanges between the teachers and students of the two schools, particularly promoting research cooperation in the fields of energy and mining, agriculture, and new energy. The Confucius Institute jointly built by KUST and NAUNM will serve as a pivotal platform for external exchanges between KUST and Nicaragua. It will help to compose Yunnan’s chapter on China’s diplomacy and tell stories about China well.

Special Envoy Ramona Rodríguez provided an overview of national education in Nicaragua, expressing the desire for more exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Nicaraguan universities in more areas and at deeper levels. Wang Nan pointed out that KUST and the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua are at the forefront of people-to-people exchanges between China and Nicaragua. He hoped that the friendship nurtured by the two universities would flourish and bring benefits to the two peoples.

Relevant heads from the University Council Office, the Division of International Cooperation, the School of International Education, the School of Science and Technology, and the Graduate School attended the symposium. With the conclusion of the symposium, the Nicaraguan delegation toured the campus and library.
