On the afternoon of October 15th,Dr. Philippe ARNAUD, Director, Office of the French National Centre for Scientific Research in China (CNRS), Embassy of France in China,and Ms. LI Mei (Responsable, Antenne Campus France de Kunming) visited KUST. A meeting was held at the Academic Exchange Center of Lianhua Campus.

At the meeting, the Division of Research Administration of KUST first gave an introduction to the scientific researches in KUST. Then the Division of International Cooperation briefed KUST’s researches on new energy as well as its cooperation with the Clausthal University of Technology in the field of blue mines. In addition, Director Philippe Arnaud also introduced the basic situation of CNRS and its cooperation projects in China. The two sides exchanged views on how to promote the cooperation between KUST, CNRS and French universities as well.

According to Director Philippe Arnaud, at the 14th session of the China-France Joint Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMIX) held in Beijing in February 2019, China and France pledged to keep strengthening mutual scientific and technological cooperation, identifying seven priority areas of cooperation including agriculture, environment and intellectual property. France will be a key participant in the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) to be held in Kunming in the second quarter of 2021, and cooperation between the two countries could be triggered in areas related to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. Director Philippe Arnaud said that he would promote cooperation between the two sides by introducing and recommending KUST to CNRS headquarters and its institutes and laboratories.

CNRS, founded in 1939 and headquartered in Paris, has more than 33,000 researchers and is part of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. It is the largest governmental research institution in France and one of the world's leading scientific research institutions, maintaining close links with French universities and other research institutions. Since the establishment of its representative office in Beijing in 1995, CNRS has become an important bridge between China and France for scientific and technological cooperation and exchange, and will continue to promote strategic cooperation between the two countries.
