On the morning of September 3rd, Professor WANG Hua, President ofKUST, gave the first lecture of the course "Introduction to Energy and Power" to freshmen majoring in Energy and Power Engineering as well as New Energy Science and Engineering. The lecture was hold in Classroom 100 of the Central Teaching Building oftheChenggong Campus.
At 7: 50 in the morning, President Wang cameinto the classroom and waited for the bell to ring while asking the students if they were comfortable with college life and other situations.
President Wang started his lecturediscussing "the relationship between energy and human civilization," explaining the close relationship between the development of human civilization and the innovations within energy application. He pointed out theprofound effects of the new energy technology revolution on the international landscape. He aroused students’ interest and thinkingby asking the question"Majoring in energy, what canwe do?"Using the Chinese Space Station,theBeiDou Navigation Satellite System,the ChineseJiaolong Deep-Sea Submersible,theLiaoning Aircraft Carrier, high-speedrailways, artificial heart valves and heat pumps as examples,heillustrated the irreplaceable role of energy in national strategic equipment manufacturing, major construction projects and daily life.
As the course progressed, WANG pointed out thefuturereforms facing theenergyfield. He emphasized the opportunities and challengescurrently facing energy and power professionals, taking into account the current global climate change situation and the national strategic goal of "peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality".He also introduced the equipment, faculty, talent training and outstanding alumniwithin thediscipline of power engineering and engineering thermophysicsat KUST. He encouraged students to study hard, making full use of the high-quality resources provided byKUST,striving to improve themselves in all aspects,while contributing to thenext round of energy revolution in China and eventhroughoutthe world.
In the lecture, WANG used daily life and familiar situations tohelp the students understand the complex and challenging issues and technical terms of this field. Byintermingling examples close to the classroom contentwith students' actuallives, WANG effectively stimulated the students' participation and mobilized their enthusiasm for the subject. The whole class was energetic and lively under his leadership, expanding students' horizons and bringing them an informative and refreshing introduction to the course. The class came to an endwith the endless applause of the students.
