Sino-Myanmar Cross-border Economic Cooperation Training Program for Sustainable Development held

On December 9, Sino-Myanmar Cross-border Economic Cooperation Training Program for Sustainable Development, hosted by Yunnan People’s Government, supervised by Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province (DCYP), organized by KUST’s ASEAN Research Center, co-organizeded by KUST’s Faculty of Management and Economics and Myanmar Economic and Social Development Research Center, officially opened in C. C. Wu Hall on KUST Lianhua Campus. TIAN Jun, Vice Chair of KUST’s University Council, attended the opening ceremony, as did the heads of the Division of Foreign Economic Cooperation of DCYP and KUST’s Division of Overseas Cooperation.


At the opening ceremony, Vice Chair TIAN Jun welcomed the participants from Myanmar on behalf of KUST, and briefed KUST as a research-oriented university that focuses on engineering with science and technology combined. He introduced that the distinctive industrial characteristics of KUST provides a good foundation for technical training needs for Myanmar. He pointed out that this training program is aiming at narrowing the information gap of cross-border economic cooperation between China and Myanmar with relevant training programs conducted in China and Myanmar, which was a useful attempt to promote cross-border economic cooperation and exchange between China and Myanmar.


It is reported that during the five-day training, professors and scholars from Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences, Yunnan Commerce Institute of DCYP, Kunming Customs, Yunnan University and Yunnan University of Finance and Economics will be offering courses on the construction of China Free Trade Experimental Zone (Yunnan), the construction of Sino-Myanmar cross-border cooperation zone, the standards and procedures of China's animal and plant inspection and quarantine, and China-Myanmar e-commerce cooperation. 20 Participants respectively from Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Irrigation, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Education and other departments and think tank researchers of Myanmar joined in the training program. Survey will be arranged to broaden the vision of the participants and they will visit Kunming International Flower Auction and Trading Center, Yunnan Baiyao Group Co., Ltd., walnut processing factory located at Chuxiong city and cultural tour in Mile city.


The ASEAN Research Center is a country and regional research center of KUST approved by the Ministry of Education. Recent years have witnessed its close cooperation network with the think tanks in neighboring countries of Yunnan Province, focusing on regional industrial cooperation and gradually forming its own characteristics and regional influence. This training program will certainly build up a solid foundation for KUST to further develop education and training cooperation with the bordering countries of Yunnan Province.
