KUST Won the National 1st Prize of the 16th Challenge Cup

The 16th Challenge Cup Beihang Investment National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest hosted by the Chinese Communist Youth League, the Ministry of Education, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the All-China Students’ Federation (ACSF) and the People's Government of Beijing Municipality was held at Beihang University from November 8 to 12. After fierce competition, KUST team won the national first prize and achieved the best record in the history of KUST’s participating in the event.



KUST launched the “Challenge Cup” university-level competition and training in the second half of 2018. 565 college students' extracurricular academic science and technology fund works and 189 works independently reported by the college in 2018 competed in the college-level, university-level preliminary, semi-final and final competitions and the selected outstanding works in the provincial finals. Finally two works selected from KUST wonthe provincial final competition to participate in the national competition. During the preparation for the national final, the KUST Youth League Committee, the Faculty of Electric Power Engineering and other departments with the strong support of the party and administrative departments of KUST, organized the participating teams to hold more than 30 road shows, hold a number of special seminars, optimize the application forms and speeches, continuously improve the exhibition materials, and steadily and comprehensively promoted the preparation work by a series of measures such as team optimization, stage reporting and financial support.


During the national finals, ZHAO Panfeng, deputy secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Youth League, visited the team at the competition venue and had cordial talks with the students to exchange views and guide them to further better innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, KUST also organized a visiting delegation to Beihang University to watch the competition and learn from the event.



The Challenge Cup has been honored as the "Olympic" event of scientific and technological innovation for contemporary college students. Since 1989, it has been successfully held for 16 sessions. The theme of the 16th Challenge Cup is "Challenge to Build Dreams and Use Science and Innovation to Serve the Nation". In the 16th Challenge Cup, more than 100,000  entries have been received from more than 2 million college students in more than 2,200 universities across the country. After the provincial trials and the national semi-finals, 447 works from 213 colleges and universities finally entered the national finals. The entries cover many fields such as machinery and control, information and mathematics, life science, energy and chemical industry, philosophy and social science, etc.
