The First KUST International Youth Scholar Forum Held

On October 21, the First International Youth Scholar Forum of KUST was inaugurated in the Academic Lecture Hall of Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering in Lianhua Campus, KUST. More than 100 outstanding young scholars were invited from universities and research institutions in the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Japan and across China. Eight young scholars signed an intentional work agreement with KUST.

 

The leaders and administrators attending the forum include RUAN Chaoqi, deputy director-general of the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department and director of the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Foreign Experts, TIAN Jun, Vice Chair of KUST’s Council, Vice Presidents YI Jianhong, ZHOU Fengyue and XIA Xueshan, President Assistant WANG Nengmin, and Distinguished Professor WU Shunchuan, a Yangtze River Scholar entitled by the Ministry of Education. Other attendees for the opening ceremony include the heads of relevant functional departments of Organization Department of Yunnan Provincial Committee, Human Resources and Social Security Department of Yunnan Province and Education Department of Yunnan Province, many other heads of relevant faculties and functional departments of KUST.

 

At the opening ceremony, TIAN Jun, Vice Chair of KUST’s Council, on behalf of KUST, extended a warm welcome to all young scholars from afar and expressed his gratitude to all the departments and people contributing to the this forum. TIAN Jun briefed the history, development status and achievements of KUST in recent years. He pointed out that KUST is now in a critical period of achieving the goal of building up itself into a “double-first-class” university, with unprecedented emphasis and painstaking efforts on talents cultivation and training. KUST will be creating a new mechanism for talent recruitment to attract more young talents from all parts of the world to jointly participate in the development and construction of KUST in a new era.  

 

Deputy director-general RUAN Chaoqi introduced the overall situation and key planning of Yunnan’s economic development. He pointed out that with the continuous release of Yunnan’s development potentials, there is an urgent need to have and train a large number of high-quality international talents of various kinds. This is how we can support the development of talents, continuously enhance the capability of scientific and technological innovation, and promote the leap and high-quality development of Yunnan Province. He hoped that KUST will further implement the talent development strategy, strengthen the mission and responsibility of recruiting talents, grasp the practical methods of seeking talents, and optimize the platform for talents recruiting. The goal is to achieve accurate admission, accurate cultivation, simultaneous introduction and self-cultivation, and enhance the disciplinary development, thus providing beneficial exploration and attempt for the talent work in Yunnan universities.

 

At the ceremony, the director in charge of the Personnel Division of Organization Department of Yunnan Provincial Committee explained in detail the policy of talents recruiting in Yunnan.  The director of KUST Personnel Department explained the policy of talents recruiting of KUST. Distinguished Professor WU Shunchuan, as a representative of talents in KUST, shared his practical experiences and insights in developing career and realizing his own life value at KUST.  MA Gi, on behalf of all the Ph.D students, made a keynote speech at the forum based on his academic experience.

 

It is reported that this forum will last for two days with one main forum and 23 sub-forums running at the same time. A total of more than 400 experts and scholars are expected to participate in the Forum along with KUST teachers and students.
