KUST Recognized as “Base for Transformation of Sci-Tech Achievements and Technology Transfer”

Recently, the Ministry of Education has identified 47 universities as the first batch of bases for transformation of scientific and technological achievements and technology transfer in accordance with the Interim Measures for the Recognition of Base for Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements and Technology Transfer. This decision has taken into account the applications and recommendations of the provincial (district and municipal as well) educational administrative departments, subordinate colleges and universities and other relevant departments and was reviewed and assessed by experts.


KUST is the only university listed in Yunnan Province. As a key university in the Province, KUST is the largest in scale and covers comprehensive levels and categories. After being chosen as National Technology Transfer Model Institutionand "the National Center of International Technology Transfer", KUST is now selected as one of the first universities to be the base for transformation of scientific and technological achievements and technology transfer.


At present, KUST has been licensed more than 8,000 patents and retained more than 3,000 of them. The transfer and transformation projects of scientific and technological achievements amount to more than 4 billion Yuan with services involving over 4,000 enterprises, bringing significant social and economic profits. Among them, more than 120 patents were transferred, licensed and used as investment, accounting for more than two-thirds of more than 70 colleges and universities in Yunnan Province, which has made KUST a leader in technologies transfer in Yunnan Province.


KUST owns more than 20 national platforms including the National Center of International Technology Transfer and has established a complete system of transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, ranging from basic research, applied technology research to transfer and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. KUST has also built long-term and stable friendly cooperation and exchanges with more than 60 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 30 countries, such as the United States, Germany, France and the United Kingdom. Besides, it has become increasingly influential with its own characteristics in providing long-term training for engineering and management talents, exercising international technology transfer and conducting high-level cooperative research with developed countries. As one of the representatives of Chinese universities, KUST has played an active role in important international and regional cooperation mechanisms, including Asia-Europe cooperation, China-ASEAN cooperation and Greater Mekong Sub-region cooperation.
