KUST Held TCM Health Lectures for International Students

In order to disseminate the Chinese culture and raise the international students' health awareness, on March 11, 2019, KUST invited Wang Jian, a post-doctor of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and an associate professor of Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to give a lecture on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)to the international students.

Taking into account the fact that the audience were students from foreign countries, Mr Wang started the lecture with the origins of the TCM, including the history of three ancient emperors, Fuxi's acupuncture, Shennong Bencao Jing(The Classic of Herbal Medicine), and the earliest Chinese medical classic Huangdi Neijing.

When introducing Shennong Bencao Jing, Mr. Wang explained how to choose healthy food in daily life. Through a story involving Huangdi visiting Guangchengzi, he emphasized the importance of healthy daily routine.

Mr Wang stressed that disease prevention should start from looking after spleen and stomach. He then illustrated five main causes for spleen and stomach diseases with case analysis, and advised the international students how to press acupuncture points to harmonize the spleen and stomach.

The lecture helped the international students to gain a deeper understanding of preventing diseases and harmonizing the spleen and stomach, who came to realize that healthy lifestyle is with us everyday, from the choice of daily food to herbals to preserve health, and from minimizing the intake of cold food to keeping early hours. A study on TCM furthered their understanding of traditional Chinese culture and enriched their campus life.
