National Key R&D Program by KUST Officially Launched

On Nov. 18th, the Kick-off Meeting was held in Kunming, of a national key R&D program “Research on Causes and Control Technology of Air Pollution”---- the Project for High-efficiency Control and Resource Utilization Technology of Typical Industrial Furnace Fume, undertaken by Professor NING Ping of KUST, the project leader.

 

 

 More than 80 members from the national and provincial level attended the meeting, including WANG Lei, Director of the Department of Resources and Environment, Administrative Center for China’s 21st Century Agenda of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, SHU Hongchun, Vice President of KUST, QIN Mu, former Deputy Counsel of the Science and Technology Department of Yunnan ProvinceAcademician Hao Jiming of Tsinghua University, member of Project Consultant Group, Research Fellow Chen Yunfa, Secretary of the Party Committee of Institute of Process Engineering, China Academy of Sciences, Research Fellow Wang Xiaoming from Research Institute of Guodian Environmental Protection, Research Fellow Zhu Tingyu from Institute of Process Engineering, China Academy of Sciences, and Professor He Daming from Yunnan University.

  

 

Vice President SHU Hongchun delivered a keynote speech on behalf of KUST and warmly welcomed all guests. He briefly introduced the overall conditions of KUST and hoped all project parties would work together and conscientiously implement the project schedule to guarantee the timely completion of every task at various stages. KUST will also make every effort to guarantee the conditions for the implementation of the project, strengthen the project and fund management, and actively coordinate with the consultant group to make the experts give full play in consulting and guiding the project.

 

At the kick-off meeting, QIN Mu, former Deputy Counsel of the Science and Technology Department of Yunnan Province, welcomed all the experts and delegates. WANG Lei, Director of the Department of Resources and Environment, Administrative Center for China’s 21st Century Agenda of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, introduced the specifications and requirements of the Program “Research on Causes and Control Technology of Air Pollution” and promised his department would strengthen the management and provide supervision and protective services for the smooth implementation of the project.

 

 

Prof. NING Ping gave a report on the overall situation of the project, the background, the task decomposition, the indicators, the technical plan and the implementation plan of the sub-projects. Subsequently, another six leaders of the subprojects reported their research outcomes, such as key technologies, implementation scheme, and expected results of each stage, and conducted discussions and exchanges with the consultant group. And the experts from the consultant group put forward their valuable opinions on 6 subprojects.

 

The successful meeting of a national key R&D program “Research on Causes and Control Technology of Air Pollution”---- the Project for High-efficiency Control and Resource Utilization Technology of Typical Industrial Furnace Fume marked that the scientific and technological innovation of KUST has upgraded to a new height. KUST will seize this opportunity to further deepen the cooperation in production, education and research between research institutes and advanced business. Meanwhile, the research, development, testing, construction and application of this project will be beneficial to creating an atmosphere of encouraging and supporting innovation. The outcome of the research will be of great significance for promoting the development of the high-efficiency control and resource utilization technology of typical industrial furnace fume.

 

 

 

It is reported that led by KUST, the project of “High-efficiency Control and Resource Utilization Technology of Typical Industrial Furnace Fume” includes 6 sub-projects undertaken by 15 institutes with the approved fund of RMB 27.24 million Yuan. The six sub-projects are as follows: purification of coke oven fume by drying and sulfur resource utilization (Tsinghua University); high-efficiency treatment of carbon roasting fume resource in the aluminum industry (China Research Academy of Environmental Sciences); dual-liquid phase deep purification and resource utilization of sulfur- and nitrogen-contained substance and ultra-fine dust in the silicon smelting fume (China Enfei Engineering Technology Co., Ltd.); high-efficiency separation and resource utilization of dust arsenic in the copper smelting fume (Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences); reduction of the fume source in the electrolytic manganese furnace and recycling utilization of sulfur resources (Sichuan University); high-efficiency purification of blast furnace gas and low-pressure purification of low-concentration CO (Kunming University of Science and Technology). Other participating institutes include Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Pingxiang Huaxing Environmental Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., MCC Jingcheng Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., Ningxia Tianyuan Manganese Industry Co., Ltd., Sichuan Tianren Energy Technology Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Province Yixing Nonmetallic Chemical Machinery Factory Co., Ltd., and Chinalco Mining Co., Ltd.
