Faculties and Students Participated in 2018 China-Sweden Joint Urban Design Workshop

     From Oct. 12th to 20th, the 9-day 2018 China-Sweden Joint Urban Design Workshop was held at the School of Architecture and Design of Southwest Jiaotong University. Professor ZHAI Hui and Lecturer LEI Wen from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning of KUST attended the event with 10 postgraduate students.



     Six universities at home and abroad participated in this workshop, which are Lund University of Sweden, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Peking University and Southwest Jiaotong University. 110 teachers and students were mixed into 15 workshop groups.



     From Oct. 11th to 14th, the participators visited Dujiangyan city Urban Planning Exhibition Hall in Chengdu and learned about the basic knowledge of its development and future orientation. And they did an in-depth and comprehensive site research. The opening ceremony  was held on Oct. 15th followed by the panel discussion on design schemes from Oct. 16th to 18th and the report and presentation of final design results on Oct. 19th.


     The theme of this workshop is sustainable urban design with keywords: Active, Collaborative and Resilient Dujiangyan, which aims to explore how the city of Dujiangyan can revitalize through economic, cultural and ecological development in the context of today's plight to refresh the vitality of the city so as to achieve a sustainable development in the economic, cultural and ecological aspects.




     Each workshop group is composed of 3 foreign students and 4 Chinese students. During the whole process, they overcame the difficulties  of cultural disparity and communication, actively discussed their ideas and finally presented creative design schemes through the collision of minds.


     During the workshop learning, the teachers and students of KUST not only conducted field research on the irrigation system at Guanxian County and Dujiangyan City, but also made an in-depth discussion on the tourism development thus to achieve revitalization of city space, economy, society, culture and ecology through urban design.
