President WANG Xueqin Visited Universities in Malaysia

     From October 22 to 23, President WANG Xueqin led a delegation to visit the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) and local businesses to further promote the implementation of KUST's internationalization strategy and the implementation of the follow-up actions of the results of the cooperation between the universities of two countries, and explore new fields and channels of the future cooperation.

 

 

     On October 22, President WANG Xueqin visited UPM and talked with Datin Paduka Dato' Dr Aini Ideris, President of UPM. President WANG said that UPM, one of Malaysia's top national research universities with a long history and excellent reputation in the field of education and research, is highly recognized in the international academic field. Two universities have a good foundation for the cooperation in the short-term exchange of teachers and students. It is hoped that the future cooperation between two universities will be further promoted and deepened in constantly improving the exchange of teachers and students and speeding up the cooperation in the joint-cultivation of talents in the fields of chemistry, environment, agriculture, business and other dominant disciplines, and two universities will make joint efforts to build world-class universities. President Aini Ideris said that UPM is willing to make progress in the cooperation with KUST and to create more cooperation opportunities.

 

 

     And then, both sides signed a cooperation memorandum of understanding.

On October 23, President Wang and his delegation visited UCTS and were warmly welcomed by President Datuk Dr Khairuddin bin Ab. Hamid. Talks were held between two sides and the development of their universities as well as the previous exchanges and cooperation were introduced. Subsequently, both sides signed the cooperation agreements on "Credit Mutual Recognition Exchange Program" and "Short-term Exchange Program", which took the first step to start the cooperation between both sides. During the symposium, President WANG said that the two sides would further strengthen the cooperation in the fields of biomedicine, electronic information and food engineering, explore the joint construction of the National-International Technology Transfer Center of KUST the Green and Sustainable Development International Technology Transfer Center of China and Malaysia, and the Industrial Marijuana Bio-medicine Technology Innovation Center,  make an effective cooperation in the fields of the research and development of natural medicine technology and the establishment of medical standard system and industrialization system, and support the construction of disciplines in both sides to make greater progress. President Datuk Dr Khairuddin bin Ab. Hamid agreed with President WANG's proposal and gave a positive response. He said that UCTS would set up a special working group and working team as soon as possible to promote the implementation of the cooperation between both sides, expecting to deepen the cooperation between the two universities in the specific project cooperation and make great progress.

 

 

 

     President WANG and his delegation also visited laboratories for mechanical engineering and food engineering, the library and the exhibition rooms and function rooms for students’ architectural design works to know more about UTCS that day. In the meantime, the delegation also visited key shipbuilding enterprises of Shiwu (the city of UCTS) and communicated with their managers to have a deep understanding of the development of local shipbuilding industry and the existing technological problems, and to strive to promote the cooperation in the development of the local pillar industries with the help of KUST's scientific and technological achievements.

 

 

 

     Representatives of School of International Education, Division of Overseas Cooperation, Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and President’s Office joined in the visit.
