Prof. MA Wenhui & PAN Bo Selected as Young & Middle-aged Leading Talents of Sci & Tech Innovation

Recently, Ministry of Science and Technology published the list of candidates of the National Innovation Talent Promotion Program for 2017. Prof. MA Wenhui from Faculty of Metallurgical and Energy Engineering of KUST and Prof. PAN Bo from Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering of KUST are selected as “Young- and Middle-aged Leading Talents of Sci. & Tech. Innovation” after a series of selection procedures.  

 

The National Innovation Talent Promotion Program for 2017 of Ministry of Science and Technology is one of National Major Talent Projects. Targeted to the world’s technological frontiers and strategic emerging industries, the program focuses on supporting and cultivating a group of young and middle-aged scientists, engineers and innovators, technology innovation and entrepreneurship talents, innovation teams and innovative talent training demonstration bases in several key scientific fields. The program for young and middle-aged scientists, engineers and innovators focuses on cultivating and supporting 3,000 young and middle-aged scientific and technological innovation talents in the world’s technological frontiers and strategic emerging industries, who will become leading talents in the innovative development of science and technology in related industries and fields, and the major scientific and technological tasks. As for the candidates, the Ministry of Science and Technology will select the outstanding into the “Project of Ten Thousand People” for the high level innovative talents in science and technology

 

At present, as for the National Innovation Talent Promotion Program, 3 professors of KUST are selected into the innovative leadership program in science and technology for young and middle-aged scientists, 2 key innovation teams, and 1 innovative talent training demonstration base.

 

MA Wenhui, Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholar in Minister of Education, is mainly engaged in non-ferrous metal vacuum metallurgy, industrial silicon production, new technology of polysilicon preparation and preparation of new energy materials, etc.. He has chaired and participated in more than 40 national provincial and ministerial projects and won 1 the second prize of national technology invention, 3 the first prize and 1 the second prize of Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Awards and the second prize. He has published more than 200 academic papers in SCI and EI, 4 academic monographs or textbooks and applied for 93 national invention patents of which 50 patents are authorized. Five of his research results have been made industrialized application and have produced the accumulated new output value more than 4.6 billion yuan. The team led by Prof. Ma Wenhui was approved by the Ministry of Education Innovation Team in 2017. He is currently the director of Yunnan Silicon Materials Engineering Technology Research Center and the director of Yunnan Institute of Silicon Industry (Innovation Center). He is also a foreign cooperative researcher at the University of Tokyo, and the vice chairman of China Nonferrous Metals Society Metallurgical Reaction Engineering Committee. the deputy director of the Expert Committee of the Silicon Industry Branch, China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.

 

Prof. PAN Bo, Ph.D.and doctoral supervisor, received a Ph.D. in Environmental Geography from Peking University and a postdoctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts, the winner of the National Natural Science Foundation Outstanding Youth Fund, the new century outstanding talent of the Ministry of Education, and the Academic and Technical Leader of Yunnan Province. He is currently the deputy chief editor of the European Journal of Soil Science, the editorial board of the Materials Herald and the Journal of Applied Ecology, the innovation team leader of the Ministry of Soil Environment and Ecological Security of Yunnan Province, and the director of the Key Laboratory of Soil Carbon Sequestration and Pollution Control of Yunnan Province, the member of the Environmental Geography Committee of China Geography Society, the member of the Soil Environment Committee of China Soil Society. Until August 2018, more than 120 academic papers were published in SCI and cited more than 3,200 times.
