The Chemistry Discipline of KUST Ranked Top 1% of ESI Worldwide

Recently, according to the latest data analysis of ESI (Essential Science Indicators, basic scientific indicators) in September 2018, the discipline of Chemistry of Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) ranked the Top 1% of ESI Worldwide, which is the third discipline of our university in the EST ranking after the discipline of Engineering and Material Science. KUST has three disciplines ranking in the top 1% of ESI in the world, showing that KUST is a university in Yunnan who has the largest number of disciplines ranking in it and that KUST has achieved remarkable results in promoting the implementation of the strategy of "Double First-class" construction, carrying out scientific and technological innovation and the strategy of development driven by service innovation in recent years, and laid a solid foundation for promoting the "Double First-class" construction in an all-round way.


The disciplines of Engineering and Material Science of KUST maintain in the top 1% in the ESI world, and their ranking continues to improve. The discipline of Engineering in KUST in the current ESI global ranking is 95 places higher and Materials Science 75 places higher compared with that of the same period last year (September 2017) .


ESI is a basic analysis and evaluation tool launched by Thomson Reuters Group in 2001 to measure the performance of scientific research and track the trend of scientific development, which has become one of the most important evaluation index tools for evaluating the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, national and regional areas in the world today. Its database is divided into 22 disciplines such as Engineering, Material Science and Chemistry, etc. The statistics and comparison are made on a 10-year cycle for the SCI, SSCI papers and cited cases of all universities and research institutions in the world so as to release the ranking of the top 1 % universities and research institutions in the world, and the data are published every 2 months. Domestic universities attach great importance to the statistical analysis results of ESI database, and regard ESI as an important index to measure the university's scientific and technological level and scientific research strength in the world.
