3rd International Symposium on Phytochemicals in Medicine and Food was Hosted by KUST

    On August 25-30, the 3rd International Symposium on Phytochemicals in Medicine and Food was held in Kunming, Yunnan. The symposium was co-sponsored by the European Society of Phytochemistry, the International Society of Chinese Medicine, the Asian Society of Phytochemistry, the Japanese Physiological Society, and the Yunnan Provincial Institute of Food Quality and Safety. Moreover, the symposium was jointly undertaken by Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Yunnan University for Nationalities, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, University of Macau, University of Hong Kong, etc.. More than 350 experts and editors of top magazines in the international food industry, and well-known experts in food fields at home and abroad were invited including more than 100 experts from Europe and the United States, and about 250 experts from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.



The followings who attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech are Professor Satyajit D Sarker, President of the European Society of Phytochemistry; Professor Yoshinori Asakawa, President of the Asian Society of Phytochemistry; Professor Yoshinori Marunaka, President of the Japanese Physiological Society; Professor Cao Jianxin, Institute of Food Safety, KUST; Researcher Bai Weibin, School of Science and Technology, Jinan University; National Medicine of Yunnan Nationalities University Professor Li Ganpeng.


Professor Cao Jianxin from the Food Safety Research Institute of KUST served as the co-chairman of the symposium. Professor Xiao Jianbo from the University of Macau and Dr. Zhang Yanbo from the University of Hong Kong jointly served as the executive chairmen of the symposium.



The symposium carried out academic exchanges between peers in the field in the form of reports, keynote reports and posters, and selected 5 outstanding young scientists, 12 excellent report awards and 10 excellent posters to encourage young workers and graduate students to participate in the symposium of phytochemistry and food science. The symposium aims to strengthen the academic exchanges and cooperation among domestic scholars, Asian phytochemical workers and European phytochemical workers, and promote the development of phytochemical natural products, functional foods and related scientific research fields in China. The symposium will further stimulate the research on phytochemistry and natural products, and broaden the horizons of the relevant scholars in China. The symposium will also enhance the publicity of the food science of KUST at home and abroad.
