The 3rd Yunnan-Thailand Educational Cooperation Forum Held in KUST

On June 12th, the 3rd Thailand-Yunnan Educational Cooperation Forum and the inauguration ceremony of Yunnan-Thailand Universities Associationwas held at C.C.Wu Hall in KUST Lianhua campus. The Forum was jointly hosted by Yunnan Provincial Education Department and Royal Thai Consulate General in Kunming, and organized by KUST. MENG Gong, Minister of Royal Thai Embassy to China, ZHOU Rong, Director General of Yunnan Provincial Education Department, LIU Baoli, Executive Secretary of China-ASEAN Educational Organizing Committee, and WANG Xueqin, the President of KUST, attended the ceremony. Over 180 delegates attending the ceremony were from Royal Thai Embassy to China and Royal Thai Consulate General in Kunming, Yunnan Provincial Education Department , 15 universities of Thailand and 44 Universities of Yunnan Province. The conference witnesses the unveiling of Yunnan Province-Thailand Universities Association, marking the starting point of strengthening the educational exchange and cooperation between Yunnan Province and Thailand.

President WANG Xueqin delivered a welcome speech and briefed the latest cooperation projects between KUST and universities of Thailand. He hoped that the Yunnan-Thailand Universities Association will promote the exchange and practical cooperation in scientific research, teaching, personnel training and cultural exchange between universities of Yunnan and Thailand, and thus makes greater contributions to cultural exchange and common prosperity for China and Thailand.



Minister MENG Gong emphasized that the bilateral cooperation and a friendly relationship between Yunnan Province and Thailand has always been important to both sides. Under the "One belt One Road Initiative", Yunnan Province is not only open up to Southern and Southeastern Asia, but also the front line province in the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) mechanism. The educational and academic cooperation between the two plays an important role in promoting a closer cooperation in all fields. He believed that the Yunnan-Thailand Association will become a key platform for further bilateral educational cooperation between China and Thailand.



Director General ZHOU Rong briefed the latest higher education achievements of Yunnan Province and its newly-achieved success in educational cooperation with Thailand. He also made proposals to promote the establishment of Yunnan Province-Thailand Universities Association, deepen the cooperation in college education and develop vocational education cooperation. He hoped that on the basis of the early cooperation, both sides will attach greater importance to the cooperation of vocational education and develop a new win-win path of cooperation through this conference.



In the conference, Lakana Dojoe, Director of International Cooperation Strategy Bureau of Thai Higher Education Committee, and Dr. Mongkok Cha Somdong, Consultant on Educational Standards of Thai Vocational Education Committee, expressed their expectation that the Yunnan-ThailandUniversities Association will function as a tie of close cooperation between Yunnan Province and Thailand.



Towards the end of the conference, President WANG Xueqin announced the founding of Yunnan-Thailand Universities Association and the five exemplary disciplines: linguistics, tourism and health services, medicine and health, agricultural science, and digital technology. President WANG Xueqin, CHENG Wenzhang, the President of Pu'er college, Wan Cha Srichana, the President of Mea Fah Luang University, Banchong Mahathir Malia, the President of Mahidol University unveiled the nameplate together.
