Vice President YANG Bin meets Lao Vice President PHANKHAM VIPHAVANH

  On July 24, Prof. YANG Bin, Vice President of Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), met with His Excellency PHANKHAM VIPHAVANH, Vice President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. He introduced to the Lao Vice President the educational cooperation and exchanges between KUST and Laos. 


     Vice President YANG Bin extended his warm welcome and expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s concern and support for the development of KUST. He said that China and Laos enjoy a long-lasting and deep friendship and are good neighbors, friends and partners. KUST has been committing to promoting an overall cooperation with the universities, government units and enterprises of Laos. KUST launches the master program of International Finance Management and the PhD program of Management Science and Engineering in cooperation with National University of Laos in Vientiane. KUST and Souphanouvong University in Luang Prabang worked jointly to build language labs, and set up Chinese Language Training Center offering Chinese program for Lao students. The establishment of Confucius Institute at Souphanouvong University is also being propelled jointly by the two universities. KUST has trained a large number of specialized personnel for the Lao government units and enterprises in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense of Laos and the National Grid of Laos. At present, nearly 180 Lao students are studying at KUST, being in the top in terms of the number of the total international students.

  Vice President PHANKHAM VIPHAVANH said that he felt gratified to witness the expanding cooperation between KUST and Laos in higher education and many other fields. He pointed out that the comprehensive strategic partnership between KUST and Laos has been developed rapidly as the cooperation in many fields between two sides move forward constantly. He added that the educational cooperation plays a positive role in the cooperation between KUST and Laos. Finally he showed his expectation for the further cooperation in educational programs and talents training between KUST and Laos.
