Kunming University of Science & Technology hosts the 5th conference on NLPCC and the 24th ICCPOL

The 5th Conference on Natural Language Processing and Chinese Computing & the24th International Conferences on Computer Processing of OrientalLanguages (NLPCC-ICCPOL 2016) was hosted by Kunming University of Science & Technology (KUST) from 2 to 6 December at Yunan Conference Resort in Kunming.

General Chair Eduard Hovy, professor of LanguageTechnologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, addressed the opening ceremony. KUST’s Vice President SHU Hongchun delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony, hosted by the Dean of School of Information Engineering and Automation Professor YU Zhengtao.

The conference on Natural Language Processing and ChineseComputing is the annual meeting of theTechnical Committee of ChineseInformation, China Computer Federation  (CCF TCCI). NLPCC is a leading internationalconference specialized in the fields of Natural Language Processing (NLP) andChinese Computing (CC). It serves as a main forum for researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to share their ideas,research results and experiences  to promote innovations. Previous NLPCC conferences were held in Beijing (2012), Chongqing (2013), Shenzhen (2014), and Nanchang(2015).

The theme of this year’s NLPCC-ICCPOL was Natural Language Understanding and Intelligent Applications including FundamentalResearch in Language Computing, Multi-Lingual Access, NLP Data Science, Machine Learning for NLP, IE, QA, NLP for social network, Information Retrieval.

More than 350 participants attended the conference. The five-day conference hosted ceremony lectures, invited talks, panel talks, conference discussions, bestpapers, poster/demo presentations and banquet for all participants to bolster their collaboration and promote the research andtechnical innovations in the fields.
