ASEAN Youth Leaders Delegation Visits Kunming University of Science and Technology

An 88-member delegation of ASEAN Youth Leaders Training Program visited Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) on the morning of November 4, 2016.

 

Prof. Dr. PENG Jinhui, KUST president, hosted a welcome meeting for the delegation. At the meeting President PENG addressed that Yunnan and ASEAN countries share common natural resources, common culture, and common challenges, and common future, and KUST always attaches great importance to the exchange and cooperation with ASEAN countries. Ms. LI Li, Vice Chair of KUST University Committee, joined the welcome meeting.

 

The geographical advantage and the common aspiration for development have stipulated prosperous cooperation between KUST and ASEAN countries in recent years. The exchange of faculty and students becomes increasingly frequent; collaborations between researchers keep growing; the number of the international students from ASEAN countries ranks top at KUST; a number of tailored training programs have been developed for a wide arrays of sectors in Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and other ASEAN countries. “The visit will open up new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between KUST and ASEAN countries, particularly the exchange of the youth, which represents the future of the region,” President PENG said.

 

Mr. Chea Vanchan, President of the Union of Youth Federation, Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia, and Ms. Wai Wai Shein, Assistant Director of Domestic/International Relations and Information Division, Union Minister’s Office of Ministry of Planning and Finance, Myanmar, as the representatives of Cambodia and Myanmar respectively, both expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the hospitality of KUST, and of Yunnan Province Youth Federation, and their commitment to promote the cooperation between ASEAN countries and China, particularly between Cambodia, Myanmar and the Chinese universities including KUST.

 

After the meeting the delegation visited the university’s Physical Experiment Demonstration Lab, the national-level Engineering Training Center and an exhibition of architectural works.

 

Organized by China Youth Federation, the delegation of the ASEAN Youth Leaders Training Program visited KUST as the only university in China. Ms. WU Lin, Secretary General of Yunnan Province Youth Federation, joined the delegation for the visit.
