KUST hosted International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology

The 2016 International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology, co-organized by Beijing Institute of technology, China Occupational Safety and Health Association, China Association for Public Safety, Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST), Nanjing Technical University, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and hosted by KUST, was held at the International Academic Exchange Center, KUST, Kunming. Over 140 attendees from China as well as internationally including Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Poland, UK, and USA, participated in the meeting.


Professor PENG Jinhui, President of KUST, addressed the opening session in the morning of 18 October 2016. 11 plenary presentations were made as keynotes after the opening session, by the important experts including Professor and Academician Piotr Wolanski from Poland. The subjects of the keynotes include: Passive and Active Way s of Explosion in Tubes and Galleries, West Fertilizer Company Fire and Explosion: A Summary of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board Report, Technical Analysis for Tianjin 812 Accident, Safety of Atmospheric Industrial Tanks: Fragility Curves, Resilience and Sensitivity Analysis, etc.


A total of 72 presentations were made during the meeting in different sessions, the subjects include: Study of Human Safety Idea Connotations, Investigations on the Smoke Movement and Flame Behavior in High-Rise Building Fires, A Novel Model for Predicting Lower Flammability Limits Using Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship Approach. 141 papers from 13 countries were received and accepted by the meeting. This is the 10th meeting of its kind, as a regular meeting held every 2 years.
